The American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal) held a productive meeting with the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Nepal’s economic transformation through enhanced Nepal–U.S. commercial engagement.
During the meeting, AmCham Nepal positioned itself as a strategic partner to the Government of Nepal, highlighting the role of American businesses in driving investment, innovation, and sustainable economic growth. Discussions focused on strengthening economic diplomacy and creating a more conducive environment for bilateral trade and investment.
The Foreign Minister encouraged AmCham Nepal to develop a comprehensive framework outlining key challenges, opportunities, and actionable milestones to advance Nepal–U.S. economic cooperation. He also expressed interest in a follow-up engagement after his upcoming visit to the United States, where deeper collaboration and strategic alignment could be explored.
Job creation emerged as a central theme, with emphasis on the private sector’s role in supporting Nepal’s national goal of large-scale employment generation. AmCham Nepal reiterated its commitment to facilitating investment and backing initiatives that generate meaningful economic impact.
AmCham Nepal also formally requested representation in relevant economic and policy platforms to ensure structured private sector participation in matters concerning Nepal–U.S. bilateral interests. The Ministry, in response, highlighted its commitment to promoting “Brand Nepal” globally—positioning the country as an emerging destination for investment and innovation—an effort AmCham Nepal pledged to support through its international network.
Both sides underscored the importance of a predictable policy environment, timely decision-making, and a level playing field for American companies operating in Nepal as critical factors in enhancing investor confidence and attracting foreign direct investment.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism for a forward-looking partnership aligned with the Government’s reform agenda and efforts to strengthen Nepal’s economic outlook.
Participants included Chairperson Kailash Bijayananda, Immediate Past President Nirmal Kajee Shrestha, Founding Chair Ajit Bikram Shah, Treasurer Sneh Rajbhandari, Manish Thapa, Sachin Karanjit, and Executive Director Amir R. Thapa.
