Everest Bank Discontinues 30 Branchless Banking Counters Across Nepal

Kathmandu: Everest Bank Limited has officially announced the closure of 30 branchless banking service counters located in multiple districts across Nepal. The move is part of the bank’s broader strategy to improve operational efficiency, strengthen security measures, and promote digital banking services.

According to a public notice issued by the bank, the discontinued counters were previously operated by authorized local agents who facilitated basic banking services such as deposits, withdrawals, and remittance transactions in areas with limited access to physical bank branches. Customers who previously relied on these outlets have been advised to shift their transactions to the nearest Everest Bank branch or other authorized branchless banking centers.

The affected service points were spread across several districts, including Kailali District, Bara District, Saptari District, Sankhuwasabha District, Dang District, and Banke District. Some of the notable locations where branchless banking counters have been shut down include Acharya Trade and Suppliers in Gauriganga Municipality, Fashion Trade Link in Jeetpur Simara, Bhurkawa Money Transfer in Saptakoshi, Chainpur Infotech in Chainpur, Everest Money Transfer in Tulsipur, and Lafa Money Transfer in Kohalpur.

Everest Bank has clarified that these agents are no longer authorized to conduct financial transactions on behalf of the bank. Clients have been urged to avoid using these representatives for banking services to prevent potential financial risks.

The bank stated that the decision aligns with its efforts to streamline operations and strengthen transaction security by directing customers toward official banking channels. In addition, Everest Bank is encouraging clients to adopt digital banking solutions such as mobile banking and internet banking platforms, which allow users to transfer funds, pay utility bills, and monitor accounts remotely.

Despite the closure of these branchless banking counters, the bank assured customers that its nationwide service network remains strong and fully operational. Customers seeking assistance in locating the nearest branch or active service point have been advised to contact the bank’s customer support or visit the official Everest Bank website.

Financial experts note that while branchless banking has played an important role in expanding financial access in rural areas of Nepal, the sector is gradually transitioning toward digital financial services as internet connectivity and smartphone usage continue to grow across the country.
