KATHMANDU: Kulman Ghising, chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, described his defeat in the Kathmandu-3 parliamentary race as a “technical matter” after losing to Rajunath Pandey of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Despite the loss, Ghising expressed gratitude to voters and party supporters, saying their trust has strengthened his resolve.
In a post shared on social media, Ghising emphasized that the election was more than a political contest; it represented a clear public demand against corruption, inefficiency, and mismanagement. “The country needs leadership that combines clear vision, practical plans, and execution, not just slogans,” he said. He criticized the system that allows delays in infrastructure projects and shields non-performing contractors, arguing that such flaws hinder national development.
Reflecting on his tenure, Ghising highlighted key achievements under his leadership, including ending load-shedding, transforming Nepal from an electricity importer to an exporter, increasing electrification from 58% to 99%, managing waste in Bancharedanda, restarting the Melamchi drinking water project, and reopening the Tatopani border.
He stressed that bold decisions and determined leadership are essential for meaningful change.
Wishing success to the victorious RSP, Ghising affirmed his party’s commitment to supporting good governance initiatives while maintaining a constructive stance against wrongdoing, including holding the government accountable through public advocacy when necessary.
