Kathmandu — Finance Minister Rameswor Khanal has announced that he will no longer participate in the daily work of the Ministry of Finance, marking the beginning of his “cooling-off period.”
The decision comes after Khanal submitted the election results report to President Ramchandra Paudel on Thursday. In a social media post, he confirmed his withdrawal from active duties and urged the public to avoid spreading speculative rumors using his name.
“I have entered the cooling period from today. Please do not circulate trial balloons or unnecessary speculation by tagging my name,” Khanal stated.
Following his step back, ministry spokesperson Tankaprasad Pandey clarified that while policy-level decisions will be on hold, the ministry’s regular administrative work will continue uninterrupted.
He added that ongoing preparations for the upcoming fiscal year’s national budget will proceed as planned, ensuring that government financial operations remain stable during the transition.
The government is expected to appoint a new finance minister in due course. Until then, the ministry will operate under routine administrative procedures without major policy interventions.
